Most of us remember the old Valentine’s poem printed on thousands of Valentine’s Day cards when we were kids: “Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.” Things seemed so much simpler then. You either gave out a lot of cards hoping you’d get some back, or you would hope that your childhood crush would give you a card. Even as we get older, we need validation that our feelings aren’t unrequited. It seems to be a common conclusion, if you want someone to like you, buy their affections. We seem to forget that words and gestures can go a long way. Don’t save it all for special occasions. You can’t buy lasting love, and gifts don’t say it all. So keep it to the K.I.S.S method: Keep it simple sweetie!
